Taos & The Greater World Community

We’re producing too much trash on a daily basis, and we don’t recycle enough. We’ve already passed that point where waste management has become a problem, and not only for the Thirld World anymore. One man had a vision more than two decades ago with a new way of building houses in a sustainable way, Michael Reynolds’ idea has never been as needed and Earthships are getting build in many parts of the world.

As living in a van, living in an Earthship is an alternate lifestyle that more and more people are adopting. We drove by Taos, New Mexico, to meet with the locals and get a tour of the Greater World Community. We finally met Mathew Cerniglia who showed us a few of these incredible houses!

Earthships are intended to be “off-the-grid ready” homes, with minimal reliance on both public utilities and fossil fuels. These houses are constructed to use available natural resources, especially energy from the sun and they’re designed to use thermal mass construction and natural cross ventilation to regulate indoor temperature.
