My nickname is Jack Furgo: Jack from Jack Kerouac and Furgo that means "van"in Spanish. I was born at the end of 1974 in Italy but I have spent the last 20 years between Ireland, Spain (where I am based) and a lot of other places. I fell in love with the road the day I read Jack Kerouac's "On the road" and I haven't stop loving it since. My passion for the road turned very quickly into an addition that I couldn't help. I travelled in any sort of way, from hitchhiking to planes but I always loved feeling the road under my wheels, so after a few road trips by car, I got a night job and bought my first van. My first van was an old two seats VW Transporter, I put a portable burner and an inflatable mattress in the back and I went for a several weeks tour through the outdoors of western Europe. I had never felt a bigger freedom than what I experienced in that trip, I was hooked! I continued traveling on and off for several years, looking for kicks and answers on the road and the more I found, the more I wanted. Then, in the summer of 2014, I had to stop. My father got sick and after a painful year, he died. It was a shocking period that turned my life upside down. After a few months, I pulled myself together and decided that the best way to honor my dad's memory was to honor life:I could not think of a better way than doing it on the road. I quit my job and decided with my wife and six years old daughter to go on a five months trip in our minivan: a Nissan NV200 Evalia. I started a blog dedicated to vans and my own trip - www.furgo.love and we hit the road. We decided that the trip would be without a real itinerary, we would improvise and travel slowly. We did and we lived a great bonding experience for us as a family and it was also a phenomenal school of life for all of us. We spent most of the time in wild areas, among woods, rivers, mountains and sandy beaches. It was a dream becoming true. Five months of outdoors life on the road. Now that the trip is over, I am back hunting answers on the road but for shorter periods, until the next dream will come true.
